Melbourne, 1971. Lewis's new job is with patients in a mental institution - he is to rehearse a play with them. One has already decided on Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte"! They talk Lewis into it, and some funny and very touching things happen. His student friends are disgusted with him doing old-fashioned love-and-fidelity stuff when he should be out in the streets demonstrating against the Vietnam war. But Lewis will not let his "mad" actors down. Eventually, some things go up in smoke, some hearts are broken, and we learn a lesson about madness - inside institutions and outside!
